CHARIS SJ MASTER CEDAR AFRICAN BLACKWOOD (SOLD)
A guitar built with African blackwood is easily the richest and most harmonically complex sounding. Paired with a cedar spruce top, this particular build enjoys a further boost in warmth and bottom end to an already full and complex sounding tone.
Cedar is much more responsive than spruce tops and has the benefit of lush overtones and a full bottom end. They require a significantly shorter break-in period than spruce tops, giving them a big voice fresh out of the box.
On the back and sides, African blackwood is known to provide for outstanding volume and power with a tonal richness that compares well to Brazilian rosewood, besting it in some ways. A generally heavier and more stable wood than the more widely known Brazilian rosewood, African blackwood offers clarity, sustain, orchestral weightiness, sweetness, and plenty of reverberating overtones. It is black and sometimes found with gorgeous sap, but in the right light you will often be treated to faceted grains and variations of black, brown, purple, and red.
African blackwood is also amongst the densest woods in the world (and also one of the most expensive). The trees grow in isolated areas of the West African deserts and the trunks of these trees are twisted and small, making it rare to find fully quartered two piece sets that are aesthetically pleasing.
This consigned guitar has been kept in immaculate condition and is as good as new. It is easily one of the best sounding and aesthetically pleasing guitar we have in the store right now.
