This McPherson MG4.0XP comes with an Adirondack spruce and Indian rosewood back and sides. The Adirondack spruce top inhibits a high velocity of sound and has the highest stiffness ratio across and along the grain of all top woods. This makes them extremely stable tops which exhibit strong fundamentals like sitka spruce but with much more complex overtones. The stiffness also provides for plenty of volume with a fullness of tone that retains clarity across all dynamic levels. Adirondack spruce pairs very well with Indian rosewood which adds great bass and tonal complexity to the overall tone of the guitar. Like all McPherson guitars, this guitar comes with a proprietary offset sound hole and a cantilevered neck which enhances the tone of the guitar by allowing the top of the guitar to vibrate freely. Within the sound hole, a series of braces are designed to arch just under the guitar top wood with minimal contact, allowing tonal vibrations to be maximized while providing for structural strength. This brand new guitar sounds huge right out of the box. It is framed in a highly flamed and even Hawaiian koa binding matched by an equally gorgeous set of Adirondack spruce. This is fast becoming one of our favourite McPherson guitars in the house and we expect it so mature very well over time. The guitar is built with a 4" body depth which gives it much more volume and fullness in tone over its 3.5 counterpart.
The guitar plays like a dream on stage and reproduces an acoustically rich and balanced tone thanks to onboard LR Baggs electronics which have been specially tweaked to perfectly complement each McPherson guitar.
