The design of a Collings OM results in balanced tone and an immediate response with a much larger bottom end than is generally found on OM sized guitars. This particular build has a European spruce top, one of the stiffest of topwoods, which gives it plenty of headroom matched with clarity and definition. The back and sides is supercharged with wenge, which according to legendary luthier Ervin Somogyi, can sound very close to Brazilian rosewood when properly managed.
Like Brazilian rosewood, wenge produces a deep bass and brilliant trebles. They mature to give the lushness of Indian rosewood without sacrificing the individual note clarity from mahogany. One can expect a properly built wenge guitar to exhibit remarkable darkness, depth, and warmth while exhibiting glorious overtones across the entire tonal spectrum.
With builders producing less Brazilian guitars these days due to the international trade embargo and Brazilian rosewood prices spiraling upwards year on year, wenge is becoming a much favoured and affordable alternative.
The visual appointments on this guitar is stunning with only select mother of pearl being used for its purfling. Premium pearl of this grade reflects a myriad of stunning colours and literally shine under all light conditions. The 42 style abalone top purfling, which extends through the fingerboard extension, perfectly compliments the rare pedigree of this guitar
Tonally, this special guitar sounds much more like a dreadnought than an OM with the unique combination of woods. This consigned guitar comes in pristine condition and will certainly delight any player who appreciates a great tone and impeccable craftsmanship.
