In 2002, John Mayer exploded into the music scene with hits like "No Such Thing" and the following year, Martin introduced the OM-28JM John Mayer Signature Edition. Not surprisingly, the limited edition of 404 instruments sold out completely and have since been prized by collectors worldwide.
Like its predecessor, the OMJM John Mayer Special Edition features a top of solid engelmann spruce with specially designed "hybrid" bracing to provide for a rich, full sound. Body appointments are also similar, with a Style 45 rosette featuring a center ring of colorful paua shell, bold herringbone around the top, grained ivoroid binding throughout and a beveled tortoiseshell teardrop pickguard. A specially formulated vintage "aging" toner is then applied and the nitrocellulose lacquer is polished to a shine to bring out the aesthetic beauty of the woods.
Each guitar is made unique with an interior label with both the signatures of John and Martin chairman C. F. Martin IV in individually numbered sequence. John Mayer's signature is also inlaid in pearl between the 19th and 20th fret of every guitar and every hardcase carries a Mayer inspired embroidered monogram.
Not only is this guitar one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the store, they sounds amazing too. The engelmann spruce top when paired with Indian rosewood and a hybrid bracing, results in great harmonic structure and exceptionally smooth overtones. This stage package is further completed with a Martin Gold Plus system which provides for a natural sounding amplified tone.
